Your child is NOT your friend. You are NOT your child's best friend. You are the parent. (Yes, that is a period at the end of that sentence). So quit acting like you and your 12 year old are equals. Stop hanging on to your child. Let him or her make mistakes. It's OK. In fact, it's better than OK...making mistakes is an important part of the growth process for children.
