Crime happens: sometimes it's victimless, sometimes traumatic. Some crimes appall us, whilst we turn a blind eye to others.
We're bombarded by reports of terrible things, so much so that most of it we don't even notice, but just occasionally something will get through and then we're out for blood.
We have an instinct for vengeance. When we hear of a little girl hanged, a series of awful questions go through our minds: How? Who? Why? When we find the answers we're usually even more shocked and appalled than when we started.
