I am a single, writer/poet, woodcarver, packrat, old hippy, easy-going, good-hearted woman! Four grown kids call me Mom and seven grandkids call me Gramma. I am an intensely happy person who is richly blessed with the love of family and many friends. Several friends in my life have known me for more than 40 years. They would tell you that I am dependable, intuitive and optimistic.
I am 59 years old and I have lived in more than 55 homes, apartments, trailers and two RV's. I collect miniature bottles, miniature elephants & miniature horses, 1930's flower frogs, 1910's-1940's prints and lithographs of the Nativity, and books on many subjects. I grow roses and cherry tomatoes in the summer. I feed the birds all winter.
I have control of the TV remote, the checkbook and the car keys. My home is peaceful and we laugh alot and that is very important to me. My kids tell me if I want a man in my life, I have to at least go out in the front yard. Ha Ha.
My son says I am exasperating but he loves me anyway. My 3 daughters call me almost every day and trust me to babysit their kids. My kids turned out OK in spite of all my mistakes. Moving them around alot made 'em tough, being poor made 'em appreciate things. I'm very proud of them.
I am a zero degree Pisces. Tickle.com says I am an insightful linguist with an I.Q. of 133, though I scored a 155 on the Stern-Binet exam. Myers-Briggs testing says I am a Type INFP (introverted, intuitive, feeling and perceptive) and that only one percent of the population fits into this category.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems plus a lot of computer related classes after college. I worked as a system/network/email administrator and computer helpdesk analyst most of my career.
Now I am retired on disability and spend too much time waiting in doctor's offices. (I usually read or carve while waiting.) I spend time at libraries and bookstores. I walk in the woods. I get to stay home and play with my grandchildren and my black cat and my Alaskan Malamute dog. I am a member of a woodcarvers club and I go to carving roundups, classes and shows as often as I can. My favorite wood to carve is cottonwood bark - whimsical houses and wood spirits.
I enjoy learning (perpetual student with a 3.875 GPA) and like to read. I read the Tarot for friends and family and I use the Legend Arthurian Tarot cards. I've experienced ghosts first hand. I am a lucid dreamer. I have accidently done astral travel twice that I know about. I have seen an angel.
I believe that we all have the power to do great things, but it lies dormant inside most hearts. I think that God lives inside of every living thing and that we are all inter-connected and responsible for each other and this planet.
I've only written a few poems, but have had some interesting reactions to them. One man said I was "the greatest living poet he had ever read". (I seriously doubt it, but he is entitled to his opinion!) After reading my Gigolo poem, a man wrote to me to say he was sorry for the entire male population. A co-worker read my Christmas Box poem and emailed me to say I should not send any more poems at work because it is not appropriate for a grown man to cry at his desk!
I found this website accidentally by doing a Google search for "soldered silver". And now I am off on this new adventure, Helium.
My passion is ...
...my family first, then writing, reading and woodcarving.
I know too much about ...
...ghosts!
My parents always told me ...
Dad said, "Follow the rules and plan for tomorrow." Mom said, "Break all the rules and don't worry about tomorrow."
My childhood ambition ...
...was to write wonderful stories for Highlights and Humpty Dumpty magazines for kids.
My favorite memory ...
...playing with my children in the tidal pools at Ocean Beach.
Why I write ...
...because it is as necessary as breathing.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
...reading about web design, watching House and Amazing Race, listening to Christmas carols.
My first job ...
...was a rollerskating car-hop at Azar's Big Boy Drive-In (Elkhart, Indiana 1967).
My best moment ...
...was sitting alone on a flat rock at the top of the hill behind Carl Sandburg's historical home in NC. It was a rare peaceful place and I envied him as I sat there and enjoyed the birds singing in his back yard.
My inspiration ...
is found in my memories and my dreams every night, in unusual places and in odd or uncomfortable moments, in my grandchildren's laughter, and in odd scraps of wood.
INTERLUDE WITH A GIGOLO He was every woman's secret dream Adventurous, confident, romantic and playful with a twinkle in his eyes when he smiled and a masculine animalistic sensuousness that rolled off like heat waves on hot summer pavement He held her in his arms and she was suddenly safe from all things, but love itself The walls she built to protect herself came tumbling down opening a door that left her exposed for him to ruin or build upon whichever he chose He introduced her heart to the wonders of being in love building a myth for her to believe in Using his special talents and char...
