Dessert does not normally follow most Polish meals. A dessert course is normally only provided during holidays and special occasions. This is not to say that sweets are not commonly eaten by Polish people. The main course during meals may often be sweet, as in pierogi (dumplings) filled with cherries or blueberries and served with a sweetened cream, or nalesniki (crepe type pancakes) filled with a fruit jam. Cakes and other sweets are often eaten as a light snack or supper with a cup of tea, rather than after a meal. Desserts and sweets in Poland tend also to not be creamy or overly sweet....
