Depression has not been claimed to be a viral disease, but I have witnessed the transfer of the mental disorder from one person to another. A few years ago, I saw a friend of mine fall into depression when she tried to help her boyfriend to deal with his own melancholy. I watched my friend's mental state deteriorate into a dark abyss. I did not understand what was happening to her then, and now that she is no more I feel guilty for about not being able to understand and help my friend, Amy.
