Although spiritually, ethically, whateverlly you want to call it, saying a society's progress should be measured on it's wealth is wrong, it's not as bad as it sounds. Bear with me for a few seconds, there's a light switch halfway down this tunnel. The spartans are a good example of a strong society. Mentally, spiritually and physically the spartans were top five with anybody. They had the strongest soldiers, beautiful women and strong family values.
