I'm a late bloomer. I dreamed of being a writer, songwriter, and singer from my early youth... but I got sidetracked. After being diagnosed with metastatic melanoma at age 43, I decided to take my talents more seriously and spend my time doing things that I enjoyed.
I attended a local writers group, and I remember thinking that I shouldn't even bother with the craft, because it takes so long to write a book and get it published, and I'd probably be dead in a year anyway.
But God was merciful. I'm still here almost four years later. I've joined other writing groups, a songwriters group, and I'm taking guitar lessons to brush up on my self-taught skills. I'm performing in local coffee houses, and enjoying life.
Cancer was a wake-up call. Now I'm yawning, stretching and smelling the coffee.

As a stage IV melanoma patient, I feel compelled to tell others about this disease, the deadliest of skin cancers.
