About me - Caren Franco

About me

My full name is Carole Anne Franco, aka Carolanne, aka Caren. I grew up in France from a Portuguese family, only to leave in my pre-teen years and settle in America. I am a 19 year old Math & Computer Science double major in my sophomore year of college.

What I like to write about most:
*Video games
*Software/Computers
*Parenting (towards Teens)
*Education
*Theater and Musical arts

(Read further if you want an explanation of why I write about those topics but beware! The explanation is long and extremely cheesy. Read at your own risk)

Though I am a math major, I've always shared a love of writing from an early age. A few original stories and even some homemade comic books drove me to love storytelling. Later on in my teenage years, I turned towards fanfiction (in both romantic and script style) and poetry. However the more I wrote in English classes, the more I realized that while I enjoyed storytelling, I loved writing nonfiction and opinion pieces a lot more. Perhaps that is why as I ventured into online writing, I preferred to dabble in tutorials and reviews.

I feel that my youth is what aids me to write more accurately about teen parenting advice. As an older teen of this generation I can use a backwards perspective, and vicarious insight I've observed through my classmates and friends, to come up with a more accurate and personal observation.

This very same truth also aids me when I write about school. My current college years, and my recently passed High School memories, from three different high schools, can help me achieve understanding from a student's perspective.

Throughout life, though I did love writing, my biggest hobby was actually admiring video games. I would have said "playing" video games, but my love goes beyond that. I appreciate not only the gameplay, but also the wonderful and immense storylines, the symphonic music, the wonderful feeling of camaraderie as you played with others. Though my gaming has become more casual over the years, I still cannot leave my roots and am attracted to video game review shows, video game competition shows, and of course video game magazines. It's easy to see that from gaming, I also ventured into computers through PC gaming. This was also the inspiration to my venture into the musical arts. Years of playing the clarinet, singing soprano in choruses, and composing my own pieces as an aspiring musician came from my love of video games. Though I did eventually leave the path of writing, and then the path of music to join that of numbers and programming, I will always be a musician and a writer at heart, and in my free time.

Being able to play anywhere is really the perk of mobile gaming. You can play while waiting for the bus, for a dentist appointment, for a commercial to be over, while someone else is using the consoles, when you're supposed to be asleep, etc

But what's a handheld without great games?

Here's a list of great games for the DS and PSP. Some GBA games might be mentioned since the DS can play them, but usually to compare to a related DS and/or PSP game for a cheaper alternative. No standalone GBA games will be mentioned, and neither will games from older handheld systems.

The list is ...
