I was born in Brooklyn, New York, the first born child of two gifted and very talented parents. Neither parent had finished High School in their native countries but they were avid readers and educated themselves here in America, attaining a myriad of skills that set them apart from many of our neighbors. They never made anyone feel that they were smarter than them and they were loved by everyone who met them.
My father had worked on the big ships and had traveled around the world before he married and I inherited his love of the ocean along with the wanderlust . My mother was a talented seamstress and later in life went on to be an Interior Decorator for a wealthy businessman in Europe.
I did NOT inherit her talent at sewing unfortuately but inherited her love of challenges.
I am a Registered Nurse, tomboy, traveler, mountain climber, DIY enthusiast and a political activist who fights to obtain justice for all people in this world, a fight that has proven itself to be daunting.
Justice for many in America is one sided. There is clearly one set of rules for the working class and another set of rules for the upperclass. Working class citizens are jailed for the slightest reason while upperclass and high profile people commit serious crimes and walk away unpunished. This is unconstitutiional and must be changed to reflect equal justice for everyone regardless of wealth or social standing.
I have written articles for newspapers regarding specific "hot topic' issues and have had the honor of having many of the articles make front page. I took on labor unions when a strike paralyzed our hospital and I lambasted the unions and their tactics in a news column which ran for seven months until the strike ended. I was praised and hated at the same time and paid a personal price for what I said but I would do it again without hesitation if I found myself in the same situation again.
I enjoy writing poetry and articles about issues that at best tend to be volatile. I am not "politically correct" and I don't apologize for that. I believe that the truth must be spoken no matter what the consequence and for that reason, while I have l won quite a few political debates with friends, I have also lost quite a few friends along the way. :-(
I look forward to learning a lot from the exceptional articles written by other Helium members and improving my writing skills by following their examples.

What Congress needs to address in the healthcare reform debate is the one thing they have refused to address and that is the fact that the American people do NOT want Obamacare and do not want this "reform" bill shoved down their throats! No can deny that changes must be made. The cost of health care has risen steadily and insurance companies continue to raise the premiums despite having made huge profits at the expense of their customers every year. That having been said, the "change" that is needed and what Congress should be working toward is a takeov...
