Christine G. Richardson
I'm a granny who sits up nights
and writes and writes and writes and writes.
My primary writing interest is speculative fiction (scifi and fantasy). I try to write the sort of stories I like to read. I like time travel, mistaken identities, and ethical and spiritual themes with solid cutting-edge scientific information. Three-dimensional characters are important, but I also look for a well-constructed plot with compelling hooks. I prefer happy endings, as long as they are not contrived. I also like an ambiguous ending that tantalizes my imagination.
I made my first fiction sale in 1997, which led to a four-year association with the E-Zine Jackhammer, where I frequently addressed the Question of the Week for a penny a word, and learned to gauge the length of a 1,000-word article with reasonable accuracy. My work appeared on a number of on-line publications, of which only Anotherealm.com survives.
My favourite job ever was that of re-telling myths in the paper publication Spellbound, which was aimed at young people aged 9 to 14. Sadly, this charming little magazine folded in less than three years, demonstrating how tough the publishing game is, especially in the wake of the electronic revolution.
Publishing is changing exponentially. The bulk of my sales have been in the electronic realm, and I don't expect that to change any time soon. Writing communities like Helium are the cutting edge in publishing today.
Despite the advantages of electronic publishing, I still have a weakness for good old-fashioned paper publications. In the future, I hope to venture into the realm of publish-on-demand, to generate some impressive home-made literary Christmas presents.

Enough boredom already! The universe is not your personal entertainment committee. If life is a drag, you are the one who is responsible for stirring up the winds of change. Take action. Do something different TODAY, before it's too late. 1. Put on some wild music and dance around the room. Do a strip tease for the family pet. 2. Write some silly poems. Dress up in a costume, set up a soap box, and share your work with the world. 3. Throw a party to promote an imaginary product or service. 4. Put some fun stuff on your to-do list. Hug kids - make indecent advances to spouse - make music - ...
