About me - Rick

About me

I'm a 29 year old professional pilot, and that has allowed me to see much more of the world than is typical for an American of my age. The most important thing that I've discovered is the value of getting away from the tourists and really connecting with locals and fellow travelers. Sometimes this is as easy as visiting Venice or Paris in the winter instead of summer. At other times, it may be as easy as walking two blocks from the central square of Cuzco, Peru and getting a chance to work on your fledgling Spanish abilities.

I'm passionate about any number of things; music, aviation, art, literature, politics, business and finance, the list goes on. I've got a pretty diverse background as well, with undergrad degrees in history and computer engineering, and a masters in business administration. True to form I'm not working in any of these fields, but I still consider my education to be invaluable to my success. I see learning engineering and finance comparable to learning Spanish or German - I can now communicate effectively with engineers and investment bankers without them having to "dumb down" their language dramatically.

While in college I was the cadet commander of our Air Force ROTC unit, captain of a varsity athletic team, and the president of my fraternity. Without question I learned more as a fraternity president than from everything else I did in college. The int...
