About me - JoAnn Powell

About me

I have always lived in the midwest, near Cincinnati, but prefer to spend my vacations in the sun. Be it a beach or Las Vegas, I love hot weather.

I have been married for almost 39 years to my high school sweetheart,we have a son and a daughter, and six wonderful little grandchildren, five boys and one little girl.

I attended the University of Cincinnati and taught for Project Head Start for 17 years in the southwest Ohio area. Nine years ago I retired so that my son and I could begin a home construction company. When the increased costs of health care cut into the profits too much, we dissolved the company, but still do some projects.

I received my real estate license in 2001 and worked with my husband, who has been in the business for 30 years.
I still work as his assistant, which leaves me plenty of free time to pursue other things, like writing, photography, and my grandchildren.

I love Helium for the opportunities it gives and for the knowledge I learn by reading, writing and researching topics I might not have considered otherwise.

The war goes on and on. No one seems to agree on how or when to end the conflict in Iraq, not even the contenders vying to be our next President. While most Americans are now opposed to our being there, there is no disagreement in the fact that we all support the young men and women who are serving in the military to try to bring peace to the region.

In the small community where I live, support for the troops has been particularly high. You see, I live in the small community that is home to Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin, a soldier taken captive four years ago and, until recently, consider...
