About me

Having graduated from high school, Xiaoqian Lim is looking forward to attending college in the fall at UC Berkeley. She has decided that her minor will be Creative Writing, but has yet to decide on a major. She hopes to continue her involvement in theatre and wishes to write for the college newspaper.

Her interest in writing developed during middle school, a period when she spent her lunch breaks alone in the silent confines of the school's library. There, she discovered Stephen King and manga, Japanese comics. Her first Stephen King novel was 'Rose Madder,' and his grotesque imagery and unusual writing techniques elevated Xiaoqian's preoccupation with the horror genre and influenced her creative writing style. In her free time, she wrote fan fictions based on the manga 'Yu-Gi-Oh!'. Her personal favorite, "Darkness Within," displays her experimentation in violent description.

Once she entered high school, English teachers recognized her as an exceptional writer. Her Freshman Honors English teacher described her as "the best student writer he has encountered in his twenty years of teaching." However, it was not without his instruction on "show-not-tell" writing and active verbs versus passive verbs that she was able to develop her writing enough to earn such a high compliment.

However, opposition to the theory of evolution has arisen once again in Intelligent Design (ID), the belief that there is scientific evidence for an intelligent designer, but it should not be taught in science classes as an equal scientific theory to evolution because it is not science, it violates the Constitution, and it misleads the public ...
