About me - Grady McGrath

About me

I'm fresh out of Grad school and ready to break back into the writing scene. My studies have taken me everywhere from Lynchburg to Ouagadougou, to Paris and Bowling Green, to name a few. I've just moved back to my native Massachusetts and I'm eager to get started as a full-time writer. I know that the journey is a tough one, but I'm ready for the challenge.

I'm trilingual (English, French, Italian) with a B.A. in Communication, a B.A. in French and an M.A. in French. I received my B.A.s from the college formerly known as Randolph-Macon Woman's (now known as Randolph College) and Bowling Green State University for graduate studies.

But, I'm not just a brain. I am an avid sports fan and athlete. My track record includes, but is not limited to, soccer, basketball, softball, skiing, and volleyball, both indoor and beach. Basically if it's a sport, I'll play it. Due to my status as athlete, I feel as though it has enhanced my view of the mythic side of sports as well.

In my days as a co-ed, I wrote for my school newspaper, "The Sundial" where I also worked as a columnist and co-editor, "The Auburn News" under the title of intern and columnist, "The Worcester Telegram and Gazette" as a local reporter and finally, "La Nouvelle Republique" where I experienced the French take on journalism.

I'm also an academic writer. As a undergraduate and graduate I focused on topics ranging from the semiological study of contemporary French couture and a patriotic deconstruction of American Vogue to the semiology of Juliette Binoche's international star image to the nature of programmatic protagonists of cult film.

"Here's a bowl. I'll get some raisin bran. Sorry it's not Total."
As a cadaver, lifeless and lonely in a refrigerated morgue, she sits on their bed, her new solitary confinement division. Tim arrives with the cereal.
"Take it, Carmen. I said I was sorry."
"I know, it's OK," she said faintly. "Tim, I'm actually not that hungry. Here." She returns his thoughtful, but lacking bowl of raisin bran. Instead she moves to the couch and glosse...
