When Thoreau and others say "simplify your life," this does not mean throwing out anything you're actually enjoying, using or doing things with.

It means throwing out anything that gets in the way of your having a good life. The Kama Sutra, which isn't just about sex despite its reputation, defined the first thing a person can do to have a happy life. Seek an occupation so inherently satisfying that you would enjoy doing it every day if you were independently wealthy and didn't have to work.
