Horses can go lame for many reasons. Some issues, they can be predisposed to. Other issues, can be man made, or be just plain accidents. First and foremost, the best way to prevent lameness, is to chose a horse who has decent conformation. Certain conformation faults, like being back at the knee, too upright through the shoulder, or having post (straight) hocks, can cause more wear and tear, and more stress on the joints.
