: About Me

I am 61 years old. I have two well-educated sons with successful careers and 4 of the most precious grandchildren in the world. My life has taken many roads, most of them, not easy. Up until about 2 years ago, if you would have asked me what my talents are, I would have had no answer. Today I know that God has truly blessed me with many talents. I not only write poetry, I am a jewelry designer, I paint, crochet prayer shawls, scrapbook.

I love a challenge. Give me an assortment of items and I can create something beautiful. I think you call my style eclectic. I can only attribute my new awareness to my wonderful husband of one year. He has been a constant encourager and has helped me believe in myself as an artisan. I still have not gained the courage to let many people see my work. I trust few people to be constructive with thier criticism and at this point I am still a bit fragile because of past experiences.

I started writing poetry when I was 28 years old. I shall never forget that day in my garden when the words of my first poem filled my mind. The words so totally described my feelings towards my alcoholic father, I was afraid that I would lose them. The urgency to write them down was overwhelming. I realized then that poetry was safe way of expressing my feelings. A few of my poems are meant to be shared with a common thread of those people who have experienced being raised in an alcoholic home and those who love us. Though they have little understanding of our troubled past, the still manage to love and accept us. My prayer is that by reading those poems someone may be comforted if only by the knowledge that they are not alone and that they are not "crazy", only scarred.

What if I had gone Down a different path. Down a road that lies Only in my past. Who would I be Now that it's too late. Where would I be Had I tempted fate? Useless questions I ask and wonder. The answers allude me As I sit and ponder. My clearest thoughts Only show the strife Caused by letting fear take control of my life. I lacked the courage To take some chances To believe in myself And the gifts God granted. I chose to take comfort In the familiar road And pass opportunities To mature and grow. So there I sat Day after day. Doing the mundane As my life wasted away.
