About me - Rebecca Ashby

About me

The "about me" page of every online profile always seems to baffle me. I found myself perusing the internet to find some catchy phrase to make myself stand out from the masses. Honestly, the "about me" page is so simple that it's hard. Nobody ever wants to talk about themselves unless they are total ego maniacs. In my search, I found many sites that were willing, for a price, to write it for me. I thought to myself, "who knows more about me than me and yet briefly, in that moment, I actually considered it! I have been a teacher for thirty years and am now retired. For years I communicated with my students in a classroom setting. In fact, today, as I was doing my grocery shopping, the cashier recognized me and said, I enjoyed your class immensely and now I am not afraid to speak in public." My expertise, you see, has been in the realm of oral communication. Blogging is a totally new experience and I hope that my views will somehow spark that same enthusiasm from the readers of my written page. I had a phone conversation with a colleague who was telling me how he had become a mime in order to explain a physics theory to his class, literally dancing and gyrating through the space to make his point. As he was telling his story, I could picture the actions in my mind! This, I believe, is what blogging should be; the words should dance off the page so that the reader feels the experience as he scans the text.

"These are only words," say the critics of Barack Obama but his words are able to "leap tall buildings with a single bound." His words ring true and thus have substance.

We yearn for a true leader; one who inspires; one who makes assessments easily and without bias; one who writes his own books, speaks from his heart and has compassion for the common man. Barack's time has arrived. The youth of our country jumped on the bandwagon, albeit a little too hastily I thought, but now as I look deeply within myself, I can clearly see why.

I have very little knowledge of foreign affairs or ...
