I have a select few passions in my life: my family (hubby, four kids and two grandkiddos, all living in our not-so-enormous house), my faith (I'm the children's ministry assistant for our church, writing units and teaching several classes), music (always a song going on, either verbally or in my head) and writing.
While I have always written fiction and children's music, and enjoyed some success, I realized lately that there's an area of the craft I've never explored before. I decided to find a place to jump head-first into article writing, to define my voice in such a gendre and hone whatever skills might transfer from storytelling. My tolerant family smiled and rolled their eyes-Mom's off on another project!
Thanks to all of you for aiding in my mission of imporving my writing. I hope you'll feel free to give honest feedback. I'm a harsh critic, but that's what I desire in those reading my work.
Hope you enjoy what you find,
Deb
My passion is ...
Hmm ... think we covered this! God, the fam, music and (of course) writing!
I know too much about ...
less and less the older I get.
My parents always told me ...
set goals you might not reach but be content with who you are.
My childhood ambition ...
to teach and write, and to perform often
My favorite memory ...
my parent's laughter in the evenings, the first time I looked into my husband's eyes, playing in the front yard with my kids ... guess that's my top three
Why I write ...
Same reason I breathe-I can't imagine living without it.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
Right now I'm reading 'Beyond Band of Brothers' by Dick Winter and am fixing to start one about the imaginary little creatures of each country (elves, fairies, etc) . Also slowly reading 'The God Questions' and 'Praying the Names of Jesus'.
My first job ...
God help me, I was a CS for Weiner's department store-AUGH!
My best moment ...
Think I'll hold onto that one, folks!
My inspiration ...
God, the kids I live with and teach, my husband, who graciously allow and encourages me to stay home because I 'was born to write'.
"Mom, I need a food project for Spanish class and it has to be a dessert!"
I glanced up at the dramatic, loud entrance of my high schooler, thinking how little some things change. "Hi to you, too, hon. How was school?"
"I just told you! My Spanish grade is horrible, and a dessert will count as extra credit on my next exam." She put her left hand on her hip, a sure sign of irritation.
"What's your grade?"
"A 90!"
I considered her and smiled. "Well, I can certainly see how that's of concern for you."
Her other hand found its way to her other hip. "So, can you help we with th...
