When it comes to movie series franchises, there is always the debate as to whether or not a certain one should be rebooted or not. There is always the great fear that they wont play it straight to the original material, or that they cannot adapt it for a new generation of fans or non-fans. There have been some exceptions to the rule. Both the James Bond and Batman series underwent a rebooting, and the result turned out very nicely. Still there would be a fear of some fans if it is anywhere close to the original as you can get.
