My name is Nicholas Alexander LeVack, and I have been writing for Helium for a matter of months. I am fifteen-years-old, having turned this age in November. Though I am still rather young, I like to think I have made significant advances into the field of literacy. I have had several articles published with triond.com, and had the prologue of a Star Wars fan fiction published on some website that I forgot the name of. SWVault, I think it is. I would have finished publishing the story on that website, but it hardly gets any viewers compared to how many it used to get, so I figured it would not be a good use of time.
I have written-and am still working to get published-a fantasy-based novella, "Thomas Bayne". It is the first of a series, and unfortunately I have only written a very general outline of the second installment, as well as its prologue and first chappter. But it is better than nothing, and I am sliding in other important details into the outline, both in my mind and on paper, so that I will be better prepared for when I continue work on the book. It is very difficult to access those stories on my PC (it interferes with my mom's laptop's connection to the internet, so I can rarely ever have it on), so I won't be able to make much headway with it until I can afford to buy my own laptop to replace the PC.
Over the summer, after I finished writing the first installment, I started trying to get my name out into this field, by submitting short stories (all horror and/or fantasy) to various magazines. As of now, I have gotten four or five rejections, and none of the stories have been published. But I am being patient, and I hope to get a story published within the year. Hopefully even the novella, too, but that isn't as likely.

A sound in the silence. A heavy scent in the air. A light in the darkness. All these things penetrated my senses, bringing me back my focus. I sat up, my backside wet with-well, I wasn't really sure. I didn't know where I was, nor what the ankle-deep substance I sat in was. But what I did know was that there was a strong sense of foreboding, emitting from the entire space like the heat of a candle.
I took deep breaths, the heavy scent that helped to bring me back to consciousness wafting towards me. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. It was said that animals were able to rec...
