My best friend rests within the tattered journal. Between the well worn pages, I open up my soul to her. She receives my sudden bursts of anger, my bouts of melancholy and those emotions that eagerly leave my heart and race down to my fingertips.
The bright red crayon that strikes the page, releasing anger, the blue-black ink of my broken heart, the yellow orange sun that shines brightly on the rough rice paper all reflect the person that I was, the person that I am, and the person I will be...

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was born on July 15, 1606 in Leiden, Netherlands. He was the ninth child of well-to-do parents, his father was a miller and his mother was the daughter of a baker. Rembrandt is considered to be one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Golden Age. He attended the Latin School and the University of Leiden.
