First off, expect to be at the appointment for at least one hour. It takes this long to get an accurate history, have a head to toe exam ( yes this includes a pap smear) and to get the needed blood work done. I work with a nurse mid-wife, so I can explain the First OB process in great detail. First of all I will get a height and weight from my patient. I also will collect a urine sample to check for glucose and protein. These are flags that allow us to catch early onset gestational diabetes and pre-eclapsia symptoms.
