The evidence given in a court of law is supposed to be taken as the truth, criminal investigations are based on facts and proof. If physical evidence was found to be unreliable in any way, then the judge or jury's opinion would be affected. The evidence given on the stand should be as reliable and as factual as physical evidence gathered by the prosecution, but of course taking testimonial evidence as the absolute truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth would be foolish.
