: About Me

Living in rural northern Michigan,  happiest outdoors or near a window this gal is likely to pause often to look out or go out. A definite four season location for her home spot means the changing scenario outside is fascinating to Candace.

Spring is definitely her favorite season and is fodder for thought and for writing. She likes to use it to fuel her imagination. Summer,winter and fall all have their good points too. She dabbles in a buffet of interests the list includes: gardening, sewing, cooking reading, swimming,fishing, deer hunting, playing flute, singing, dancing, knitting, crocheting, building and remodeling, raising chickens, cats and children, encouraging and providing a listening ear. "Bored" is not in her vocabulary.

Serious writing started in college when she switched her major from music to communications after deciding her eye for painting with words was better than her ear for music. Following college she was assistant editor at a small town weekly newspaper in central Michigan and then editor of this same publication, "The Leslie Local".

Leaving this paper, she moved north to marry. She and  Dennis  have managed a houseful,homeschooling all six of them during part of their upbringing. Now three of those offspring are married and  have children of their own. Hence the addition of a three young men and eight grandchildren to the brood. The youngest two offspring are in college while Mama stays busy feathering the country nest .

After over 20 years of homeschooling Candace has been concentrating more on writing and editing skills. Her interests in writing on a variety of topics and has produced a sampling of pieces on a wide range of topics on Helium. Her blog on Wordpress.com under the penname of Sloggy can be found by following this link http://sloggy.wordpress.com/. These two sites give a snapshot of her writing ability. Some of the interaction on Facebook provides good fodder for writing. How To's are the newest effort she has pursued on Helium. My childhood ambition ...

was to have tea parties,catch panfish,grow my hair down to my waist,read lots of books and play my flute well and grow a good garden.

My favorite memory ...

varies by the moment mine start as a toddler.

Why I write ...

Because I love to and long to put into words and I have questions.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

at least two books and the sounds of the season.

My first job ...

was raking up and burying dead fish along the beach as well as selling birchbark craft items I made.

My best moment ...

is impossible to pick.

My inspiration ...

is in God's great outdoors and in rubbing shoulders with others.

Getting the soil ready to garden is a chore to tackle before the plants and seeds on in the ground.
