Sylvia McGrath
Sylvia now lives close to Lake Simcoe, in Ontario Canada with her husband Pat, and dog Willow. She was however, born in Surrey England; her father an engineer was transferred several times taking his family to Scotland and then to Canada. As a result of these moves Sylvia went to twelve different schools.
To compensate for losing friends along the way, she turned to books and became an avid reader with a great love for books and art.
Sylvia graduated from school majoring in business, and had over thirty years experience in customer service and managerial positions where she wrote job descriptions, computer manuals, business reports and business correspondence
A couple of years ago Sylvia took a course in freelance writing, which she really enjoyed as it was the key to following her dreams. Since completing the course, she has worked as a children's writer, a feature writer for suite101.com, has become a published poet, and at present is co-authoring along with two Maximum Life Coaches, a book about "Living with Chronic Illness," Recently she has committed her time to writing articles as a columnist for a magazine to be published in the fall for The Special Needs Network.
Besides working as a freelance writer, Sylvia still finds time to volunteer as a literacy tutor for her local Learning Centre, assists in facilitating in workshops on disability awareness and is a board member of her local Mobile Transport Organization. Her main focus is to write books for young adults who have learning challenges and children with chronic illnesses.
Sylvia is an associate member of CANSCAIP Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators and Performers.
