Kids can get excited about writing. There are many ways to facilitate, encourage, prompt, and celebrate a child's writing. First, let's start with the parent's responsibility. Before a child can write s(he) must have knowledge of the written word. A child should be read to everyday. It is important that a home be filled with literature; storybooks, cookbooks, fiction, nonfiction, newspaper, magazines, etc. A child with a rich literary environment will have a higher level vocabulary and a strong sense for the flow of words.
