: About Me

I am a third generation horsewoman living in the "Bluegrass" of central Kentucky. My earliest memories are all of horses and horsepeople. I cannot remember when I took my first ride, or on what horse, but I am sure it was initiated by my grandfather and mother. Both professional trainers, they spent countless hours with me at their heels teaching and addressing endless questions. At the age of 6 I began to compete and have never looked back.

Now 51, I realize that my life has been defined by horses and the people who care for them, both good and bad. Sometimes I feel as if working with horses comes to me so naturally that I don't even seem to give it consicous thought. After so many years, so many horses and so many situations I believe one just begins to think like a horse, if you're lucky.

I don't know what my life would have been like without the constant presence and influence of these creatures and thier humans. They have taught me the difference between generousity and greed, patience and temper, honor and deceit, success and faliure. For all of these lessons, I will always be grateful.

Teaching your horse to side-pass can be fairly easy providing two simple cues have been well established before you begin. In order to teach lateral movements your horse should first have the ability to respond readily to direct leg and rein pressure.
