About me - Nathan Hook

About me

I am a 36 year old New Zealander living in Minnesota USA and am happily married. I've been in the USA for 18 months and saw helium as another vehicle for expressing my ideas and opinions.

I've been expressing my thoughts for some years now and was a regular contributer to the Dominion Post newspaper back home in Wellington NZ, especially on matters related to government. As a history major I have a keen interest in the way other people think and operate and am fascinated with the connections between culture and government.

I earned a BA in history in 1995 from Victoria University of Wellington and a post graduate diploma in secondary teaching from Massey University in 2000. I taught English and social studies for six years before emmigrating with my wife in 2007.

I have a variety of ideas for childrens stories that I am in the process of writing, as well as some fan fiction for a sci-fi classic Blakes 7.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Guitar, music, working out, my wife, video games(I'm addicted - eek!)

I know too much about ...

Formula One motor racing.

My parents always told me ...

there's no such thing as "can't."

My childhood ambition ...

To be a writer.

My favorite memory ...

Asking for directions in a bar in Circle, Montana.

Why I write ...

Purely for pleasure and to express thoughts.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I'm almost through the Kite Runner, I saw the movie last year but never got round to reading it. It's delightful. I'm always listening to something which possesses a decent set of musicians and doesn't throw all of the songs potential at you in the first three bars.

My first job ...

Painting concrete driveways.

My best moment ...

Playing another brick in the wall with some teacher buddies, a Scotsman on lead guitar, a Yorkshireman on bass, me the Kiwi on rhythm guitar and a Samoan drummer. The kids loved it.

My inspiration ...

The hope that I make someone else think, or be entertained.
