Which comes first:Finger foods or spoon? The fingers come first, that is the way a child should learn to eat first, then work it's way up to a spoon. Babies don't know how to do that right away so they explore kind of how to do it with their fingers. Although I would give him or her a spoon too, and teach them what it does, and then when they're ready, they'll start trying to do as we adults do. It's just a matter of time and patience.
