The endorsement of John McCain by the senior Bush is a nod to the party hierarchy and establishment that he is an acceptable choice. It also should be noted that the current president has essentially given his endorsement in so many words for what it's worth. The senior Bush has little influence on the conservative base of the republican party. So the endorsement while it may look good on paper means very little and may even hang like an albatross around McCain's neck.
