About me - Nick Goundry

About me

I'm currently a freelance London-based film and media writer. Film is my passion and I currently write for UK print-journal The Film & Festivals Magazine (see links opposite), as well as features/reviews websites Future Movies, Close-Up Film and The Smell of Napalm (www.thesmellofnapalm.com), for which I reported on last year's London Film Festival. I have additional work published on The Bright Lights Film Journal.

For my blog, Cine-City (www.cine-city.blogspot.com), I take new-release films and use them as a springboard into discussions on wider cinematic culture. I also currently have a feature-length screenplay optioned to an American producer.

In addition to my film work (all of which is currently unpaid), I have more widespread interests, including current affairs, the Sciences and World History. I'm also keeping close tabs on one of the most exciting US Presidential election-campaigns in my lifetime.

I'm always looking for interesting projects to expand my existing experience.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Film.

I know too much about ...

Film (predictably).

My parents always told me ...

to trust my instincts.

My childhood ambition ...

was first to be a marine-biologist, then an archaeologist.

My favorite memory ...

Too numerous to single one out.

Why I write ...

Because it's what I'm best at and I'm deeply opinionated.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Trying to get into Crime and Punishment, and catching up on classic cinema that I've somehow never got round to watching before now.

My first job ...

Working in a library. For a single eight-hour shift.

My best moment ...

Getting a screenplay optioned. And getting a press pass for the London Film Festival.

My inspiration ...

Self-belief and the creative possiblities of cinema in commenting on the world in which we live.

[REC] presents the footage' captured by a late-night news reporter and her cameraman as they follow a team of Barcelona firefighters on a routine call to a seemingly innocuous apartment block. A gruesome encounter with an apparently demented old woman quickly escalates out of control, and suddenly the lives of everyone in the apartment block...
