If people really knew what exactly was used to grow the food they eat then the demand for organic would be through the roof. While many of the most toxic chemical insecticides, herbicides and pesticides are no longer used in the United States for any agricultural reason (DDT for example) they are used in many South American countries from which the US imports fruit and vegetables.
