My name is Jackie, of 29 years, and I currently live in the land of big buildings and winded politicians. After a brief stint in the mountains and desert, I decided that there is no place like home, and traipsed back home so I can root for my beloved White Sox and care for my dear great auntie (R.I.P).
I love to write, and have been putting ideas into words since right after I learned to talk. My first poetry book was created at the ripe old age of 7, and I've been quite curious and precocious ever since.
I've always been opinionated, thus making writing the perfect outlet for someone who can never seem to shut up. Luckily for me, my husband (yes, the feminist made it legal!) is uber-supportive and doesn't try to change me. This works out great, because I let him be as well. But together, we create, the poet and the painter...and share a love of quoting movies, eating as much as possible and making sweet music ala Rockband.
I have learned quite a bit over the past few years...it takes approximately two and a half minutes to begin pursuing your dreams, and a lifetime to fulfill them. I am two parts happy, one part melancholy...shake me, stir me...watch me grow.
Life can only be understood backwards...but remember that stressed spelled backwards is desserts. And I leave you to ponder...
My passion is ...
writing, of course...but just trying to stay true to who I am.
I know too much about ...
Alzheimer's, triple by-passes, other people's drug habits...sigh.
My parents always told me ...
well, my mom always says "you can't say that" and my father always would tell it like it is...you decide to whom I listened...
My childhood ambition ...
I aspired to be a queen, an astrophysicist, and a rock star...now, my adult ambition is to learn to grow up.
My favorite memory ...
Lying on the grass under the tree at my grandmother's house, looking at the shapes of clouds.
Why I write ...
I can bleed, scream, punch, laugh, cry, make love...all through words.
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
I read everything about everything because I learn autonomously...I watch game shows, cooking shows and classic sitcoms...I listen to everything Eddie Vedder ever composed.
My first job ...
Fannie May Candies...a cute li'l candy girl with a big attitude (I once broke up a fight between two grown men on Valentine's Day...not in my store, dammit!)
My best moment ...
finally graduating after all my ups and downs...
My inspiration ...
my husband...he's the most creative person I know (besides me...haha)
Having done extensive research in college and under a professor in Alzheimer's, I hope to shed some preconceived notions about the disease, and provide a few health tips: 1. Consume omega-3 fatty acids. Many people do not consume fish, either because they don't like the taste, or they just don't know how to prepare it. Tuna, cod, salmon and other similar types of fish are great for your overall health. They help with memory, but more specifically, the sharpness of the mind, and overall clarity. 2. Do your research on 'memory' pills. While there are several popular prescription drugs out th...
