At eight years old, I wanted to generate and control my own funds. So, I took a job selling candy door-to-door during the summers. Key learnings from this experience were: a) I'm not a bad salesperson, but pigtails and freckles really help. b) I'm competitive c) Poor people part with their cash more easily than rich ones.

"Is that smoke pouring out from under the hood?" I calmly asked my fellow American travel companion as we tooled down the Spanish autovia in the coolness of night towards San Sebastian. "Yes." She yelped. "What should we do? Why is that happening?" I thought back to our recent stop at the petrol station. I, the perpetual bargain hunter, noticed that the "Gasolina A" was 25% less than the other choices. Hmmm. "Gasolina A" probably means "Grade A. The best". What luck! It was cheaper and better.
