About me

As I sit in the beautiful Panhandle of Texas, gazing across the plains, I am thankful for the opportunity to travel that my husband's job brings. I am a forty-seven year old woman who left the classroom after so many years that I hate to count them. I have a real appreciation for nature and I have seen places I would never have seen if not for moving around. I have amazing children and an even more amazing grandson. We are all healthy and happy and working hard. I have all the time in the world now to explore my passions, mostly writing and reading about politics and human behavior.
We come home occasionally to Texas and now I sit happily in my home in April. Our youngest just today left for Tokyo on an aircraft carrier as an airman for the navy. Our children make us proud.
The two other children still left at home, Fred and Sugar, are outside in the backyard soaking up the spring sunshine.
Life is good and absolutely worth fighting for, don't you think?

Fred is the young one, the boy. He is a sleek, 145 pound gray Harlequin Great Dane, long ears flopping in the wind as his jowls flap while he runs around the yard (or anywhere he can find the space) chasing anything we throw! His eyes dance with laughter when he brings back his "baby" to be thrown again or maybe just wrestled out from under his massive front paws. And he is not afraid of much. Thunderstorms are a source of fear for most other dogs. He begs to go out and play in the rain!

It was not always so. I will never forget his first day at our home. He was nine weeks old. He ...
