My writing experience has been varied and enjoyable, especially since I didn't start until my early 40s. When I began college at 39, I knew what I wanted to do .
As a newspaper reporter, I wrote about city and county government, events happening in the court system, covered sheriffs' and police departments. For fun, I wrote feature stories and a weekly column.
After earning my bachelor's degree and becoming a grandmother at the same time, I worked for newspapers while earning a master's degree. As time went on, I taught journalism classes, then went back to school to earn a teaching certificate in special education, and almost a second master's degree. Coursework is done; the final tests are not. I worked as a high school special education teacher for four years, and now substitute at area schools and do some freelance writing.
I have five grown children, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren!
Older people who return to school may be there for a variety of reasons, but one concern many have is relating to younger students who have grown up in a much different world than their older counterparts. Younger students are likely to be much more knowledgeable about technology. Their social habits and interests are different than the older student.
