I have enjoyed writing and typing 100 wpm daily for many years. I come from a family that was once wealthy in Manhattan in New York City. My great uncle was a reporter for the "New York World" newspaper in the 1900s. He also covered the President in Washington, D.C. in his era. My great grandfather was a doctor, my grandfather owned his own radio business store, one aunt was a photographer and my mother was a keypunch operator. My other set of great grandparents traveled to and from Italy where they purchased marble for their fireplace mantel business. When my mother remarried, we flipped lifestyles totally and lived in several small homes in a mountain setting. In our last farmhouse, Mother learned how to can vegetables, jams and jellies and take care of chickens while my stepdad learned how to tap maple trees and boil real maple syrup for three days in our garage. There was no wealth in these homes. My bedside nightstand was made out of an orange crate with a pink and white checked cotton cover that Mother had sewn and placed over it!
After graduating from a Christian liberal arts college with my B.A. in psychology and a minor in education and a second almost-minor in Bible courses, I moved to the Midwest and worked with the public professionally (counseling children/families) and as a private secretary for nearly every major industry on temporary assignments. Typing, research and analysis have been a part of my life since Junior High School. After marriage and childbirth, I educated our gifted son from kindergarten through twelfth grade with excellent curriculum used worldwide (ABeka Book.) He won four scholarships and graduated Summa Cum Laude from his university. Altogether, I have done either professional or volunteer work with over three hundred children.
I reinvented my career in the field of education by teaching gifted children via speaker telephone long distance. I started a fledgling business introducing beginning interior design principles to wives and I began considering the world of nonfiction publishing as I started writing my first book which is nonfiction adventure for children. Earlier, I was published twice for poetry in national anthologies and once in a citywide newsletter to parents regarding how to prepare their child for college. I worked as a volunteer editor for TOPIX and managed the news for five cities and two countries. I really enjoy analyzing newswire articles, posting or "killing" a story, initiating Forum threads and responding to public comments in Forums. Encouraging people to develop their potential, helping them think of both sides of an issue and providing timely resource information on a wide variety of subjects comes easily to me. Then I discovered Helium and sold my first article. I am not an athletic person so it is amusing to me that the topic of that article was about baseball stadiums across the nation. I had not realized how much I had gleaned from my husband who is a former athlete!
Entering the world of blogs, I wrote daily posts about the humorous side of caregiving for my elderly Alzheimer mother who has complicated medical conditions but is such a fun character. Since I am here 24/7 with her, it would be interesting to transform those saved posts into a manual about creative alternatives to help other families who are doing or considering Alzheimer caregiving. Next, I joined CafeMom where I developed online relationships with many women of all ages. One of my favorite groups is where the young mothers ask for our ideas about what to name their babies. Another one is where they ask for advice on a wide variety of topics. Additional groups I joined include Recipe Swap, Current Events, Science, Healthy Living, How to Make a House a Home and another one that helps with home remodeling. Recently, I joined Facebook and that has been a good discipline, learning how to write just one or two sentences for the "Wall" although I write longer posts in my own section. A favorite activity is matching my photographs or famous paintings of centuries ago to the topics. Photography is a major hobby of mine and I take pictures chronologically to tell a story.
I have a very diverse background with people from all economic levels and I have worked or had experience with individuals in nearly every major industry. I sat under some of the best speakers "in their finest hour" from across the nation and around the world. I took three continuing education courses and participated in many seminars on a variety of subjects related to the needs of people. I have lived in three major regions of our country, traveled to most of the states and twice outside the continental United States of America to the Caribbean and to Hawaii, all islands. I have met people from around the world and learned about lifestyles in those countries. With a lifetime of medical concerns for myself and for our son, I have explored both traditional medicine and alternative medicine to find answers and resource information. I maintain a large library on all subjects. I monitor news three times daily and do much online research. I have a lifetime love of learning new things and I greatly enjoy analyzing cause and effect, seeing patterns and writing the pros and cons of various options for solutions.
Favorite secular quotation: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Favorite Bible verse: "O give thanks to the LORD for He is good: because His mercy endureth forever." Psalm 118:1 (KJV)
