I am a writer. To earn a living I have done quite a few things, some related to writing, others not. Retail clerk, railroad track laying crew, paralegal, legal secretary, publisher, bank teller, innkeeper, and book indexer covers a lot of it. Now I am a freelance researcher and web site designer.

I have a long term interest in right living, the environment, and fairness issues. I write quite a bit about history and politics with an eye to the ethics of situations.

Teachers should be held accountable for low student test scores. But so should the students themselves, parents, politicians, and communities. We know that many factors go into student achievement. Children whose parents use large vocabularies at home on average show better language skills than children of parents with limited vocabularies.
