About me - Carly Kade

About me

I'm just a college kid who likes to write in her spare time, and is trying to get the hang of non-fiction. I have a few stories in progress, though not enough patience to write a whole novel... Yet. I write fiction, and occasionally poetry, for fun. When it comes to work, I stick with non-fiction, because a non-creative subject isn't effected by bouts of evil writer's block.

You might know me from a variety of writing games, groups, and projects on the 'web, particularly those involving dragons/fantasy, or dark/horror fantasy. What can I say- I love escapist works as much as I love historical ones, and sometimes those emo characters can be fun to write.

I also have a novel in progress now, but as the research it takes is extensive, it's taking a while. If anyone knows about the red scare and the USSR, and wouldn't mind filling me in on some of the details, I'm always glad to have extra help.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

Writing, reading, Yoga... And sports. Martial arts, skiing, anything fast and a little dangerous. ;)

My childhood ambition ...

To be a firefighter or a prosecutor/DA. Or stunt double.

My favorite memory ...

There's a certain plastic duck incident which has gained notoriety among my friends.. And of course, the bizarreity of school: "I know your teacher said that she wants to encourage kids to read, but she didn't mean DURING her class!" Apparently, teachers who encourage art also don't mean you can draw/paint/oil pastel during their class... =( Hypocrites.

Why I write ...

It's fun, it gives me something to do with my time, and it stops my muse from waking me up in the middle of the night to nag me to write something already. What can I say? My muse is a hard taskmaster, but it hurts so good. ;)

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

Reading: Annie on my mind. Listening to: The Runaways (Obligatory "I loved them before the movie!") Watching: The first series of lip service- there'd better be a series 2!

My first job ...

The job description was 'salesperson/ organizing stuff on shelves'. That's managar speak for 'Find your section's items, which the stock people decorate the floors of the entire store with, and shelve them, and tell someone when the children are having glue fights / climbing shelves/ being left for hours at a time by careless parents"

My inspiration ...

There are so many. I think my friends inspire me most- they think I can really make it as a writer, and that's a nice show of confidence. Either that, or they're practicing their politician skills, AKA lying through their teeth.

Gardenburgers, Tofurkey, Quorn- meat substitutes are a dime a dozen. But what's a vegetarian or vegan to do if they get tired of these often bland, pale imitations? Meat substitutes are not the same as meat, no matter how close of an imitation they attempt to be, and trying to eat your usual diet with vegetarian or vegan substitutes can quickly lead to boredom, or longing for the ‘old foods’. However, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan friendly foods that many people have never heard of. To avoid this slump, try experimenting with new recipes, or new foods. Here...
