In 1989, an 11-year-old Stacey was one of five finalists in the New York State Imagination Celebration's Young Playwrights Project. After seeing her play performed in front of a full audience and seeing her name in the program, she was hooked writing was always going to be a part of her life.
Several angst-y journals and volumes upon volumes of bad teenage poetry later, she went off to college to major in English. While there, between literature classes on Shakespeare, D.H. Lawrence and the English Romantic Poets, she took her first journalism course and became enamored with the profession.
After much encouragement throughout her college career, including the honor of being one of three students chosen from the journalism school to cover the 1998 New York state elections for the Kingston Times-Herald, she began to look for positions in the field. From carpet cleaning and janitorial product distribution trade publications to covering local town and city government meetings to nearly six years writing for, and ultimately, guiding the many news publications of an honored insurance association it didn't matter what she was writing about, she was just happy being able to write for a living.
In early 2007, Stacey found her calling while working for Saratoga TODAY, a local weekly newspaper with a circulation of 10,000, she loved being able to write for a wide audience on a host of topics, including personal interest stories, articles on smart development in the city of Saratoga Springs, business profiles on local restaurants and stores, op/eds with a personal slant and celebrations of the arts and entertainment.
Late in 2007, with the unwavering support of her husband, she left the paper in pursuit of a writing career on her own terms. Whether it is working on the short stories that have been rolling around in her brain for the past 15 years or continuing her relationship with the editorial staff at Saratoga TODAY as a freelance writer, she has found her stride. Not one to ever be 100 percent content however (unless maybe Rolling Stone, Spin or Blender comes calling), Stacey is always looking for new projects to tackle.
