"The most potent weapon in the hand of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed" Steve Biko
This statement has helped me to define what it is I feel I have been called to do with my life. All of my life I have been told of the gifts I have been given; the ability to speak, and write effectively. What are they for if not for the upliftment of my people and humanity in general?
I feel the need daily to write and speak on issues that face oppressed and downtrodden people on this enormous lopsided ball we call the earth. I have written and spoken on issues such as Afrikan children's issues; famine, poverty, abuse. I have protested for Afrikan/Afrikan-American Studies programs. I have valued and spoken on the issues of abuse and mistreatment of women in music, politics and the economic arenas. I have fought against police brutality and harrassment. My work has included a 3 year stint in talk radio granting me access to the innerworkings of media. During this time I also assisted in an excellent Mayoral campaign.
I am finishing a children's fictional work covering issues like deforestation, human rights, and respect for indigenous cultures. It is the first in a series called The Popota Chronicles. I have finished a work called Noni's Gift, which is a book of poems I have written on my relationship with my wife. This work is unique in as much as it is my position on how I have affected her negatively and positively, making it intensely personal.
My writing can cover a gambit of issues including the environment, human rights and women's issues. Issues affecting Afrikan children particularly interest me as I am passionate about the Sudan/Darfur situation.
I am a writer of deep conviction and a charismatic speaker. Let me help you get your message out!
