About me - Mary Ann Melton

About me

I started taking pictures as a child with a Kodak "Brownie" camera. As a young adult, I began taking 35mm pictures first with a view finder camera and later with a SLR. A couple of years ago I discovered digital photography. Over the last three years, I have been practicing and studying to improve my photography and photoshop skills. I became a member of the North American Nature Photographer's Association in 2003. I attended both the 2004 Summit in Portland and the 2006 Summit in Denver. Last October I attended PhotoPlus Expo in New York City concentrating on the workshops dealing with stock photography.

My work has been shown at the Hubbard Museum of the American West's Annual Photo Exhibition, at the Festival of the Cranes in Socorro, New Mexico, and the Toronot International Salon of Photography. I've been published in NANPA's 2006 and 2007 Showcase of Images. My most recent publication is in the November 07 issue of Texas Highways magazine.
My goal as a photographer is first and foremost to capture images that will remind me of things that we see when we travel or that capture special family moments. But, recently, I have had the desire to share the beauty that I see in the world around me with others. No matter where I go - from my backyard to the desert to the most beautiful national park - there is astounding beauty. The tricky part is capturing that beauty with the camera. I hope that you will enjoy my pictures and visit my website (http://www.maryannmelton.com) regularly. My plan is to have a new "front page" picture every month. I will also be updating and adding pages on a regular basis. Hopefully, if you visit often, you will find another view of God's amazing creation.

I write a blog (http://maryannmelton.blogspot.com/). You will find posts about photography, Christian living, science fiction conventions, and other events in my life that I think people might find interesting or informative.

I think this yearly quest that begins on January 1st is a good thing. I think all of us have hidden, unused potential. We can make changes in our lives. But it is not easy. We are generally optimistic on January 1st. We make our "resolutions...
