I am 54 years old with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Philosophy. My interests span the worlds of history, politics and literature. My main two passions are ancient Greek culture and Russian novelists. I am new to the world of blogging but expect to be opining on the major issues of the day.
I am now back in Texas after residing in Ohio for the past few months. Originally from Michigan I have also spent a number of years living in Canada. I hope to bring this perspective to my writings.
Politically, I am a registered independent, although, I must admit that as long as the Republican party remains in the grips of evangelical Christians and people like Tom Delay and others, I will be hard pressed to find much to support.
I do believe that government is to be watched. Less, more effective government, is more desirable then big government. Individual rights are important, but not at the exclusion of shared responsibility. I may be hard to pigeonhole, but then, most Americans don't fit the easy categories.

And in most cases these are the sins of both sides of the debate. Therefore, anyone attempting to discuss the role of religion in schools would be well advised to step carefully. I intend to heed my own advice. Before we can begin any discussion we must first define religion for the purposes of our debate. Are we simply talking about Chri...
