My name is John W. Shearer. I have been composing poetry, music and serving as a music and book critic for over 40 years. I have had many works published, recorded and performed and have one book of poetry and enough material composed at the moment for several more. I have composed many musical works for various and unusual instrumental ensembles. I was a music major and the bulk of my compositions I would catagorize as avant garde, new age or theatre pieces. Many of my works are combined with recitations of my poetry along with my music. It is very difficult to get new musical and poetic works performed, recorded and published. The reason being that often times the musician's and conductors are unfamiliar with new works and in many cases such as much of my work, it can be very demanding, somewhat difficult and complex to perform. The performers involved many times simply do not know how to interpret and execute the work unless the composer is readily available and active in each and every session. To some degree this is understandable, however, the college or proffessional performer must be willing and excited at each and every new challenge and oportunity to be a part of a new creation, and be prepared to think outside the box. This is what creates progress and thus new art is born and created. I am very optimistic, ambitious and confident that at some point in time much of it if not all of my conpositions will see the light of day and be discovered. I studied musical composition with Dr. Kenneth Timm who studied with the famous composer Darius Milhaud. I am 58 and live in Richmond, Ky. I am married. I have two children, a son and a daughter and three grandchildren. I love to spend time with my grandchildren. I also enjoy writing, traveling, composing, photography, playing music (drums, guitar, piano & harmonica), listening to all genre's of music, reading, studying astronomy, fishing and going for long walks in the rain or snow. If you wish to contact me and know more about me just email me at neptune101@bellsouth.net. I would love to hear from you. I do hope that you enjoy my work and find it interesting, stimulating and inspiring.
