About me - Francis Jock

About me

I love to write for the joy of writing. For the fulfillment and satisfaction of placing thought on paper (or screen) for others to contemplate, enjoy, argue, love or hate. I write from my experience and beliefs, my concept of what it means to be human, not just another American. I write for myself, nothing more, because I am only one voice, a distant voice at that, trying not to be drowned out in the cacophony of literature.

I like to write with satire quite a bit, because folks these days take things too seriously. Poking fun a some subject or other that causes blood pressure to rise and tempers to flare is needed to bring us back to the earth from the pulpits of rabid dissertation. I hope you get my drift here, so to speak. But I also like to write about large things as well.

For instance, I write about Hurricanes because I spent three years flying into them with the Navy. I write about housing and property management because I endured three years as a property manager. I write poetry because it is the unseen world of secret imagination and creativity. I write about mathematics, science fiction, physics, and electronics because I love math and the abstract.

Writing large, that is, technical writing, is just fine, but writing abstract and humorous is dangerous. If no one gets it but me, why am I wasting my time? But without stretching our imagination, to see serious things from a viewpoint of absurdity, is to suffocate creativity.

Last of all, I write about romance because the passion of lovers and spirits entwined in an endless universe is the magic of existence as a human - the pinnacle of creation.

I would love to hear your criticisms, comments, and remarks about my writing.

The following is called "The Thanksgiving Address", and is borrowed from the Iroquois and shared with all. It is recited at the opening of all events and precedes any undertaking by the people. It is a reminder of our place in the natural world. There are differences in the Address, according to the narrator, but the form is consistent. This recitation is presented in the spirit of sharing and thanksgiving.
