Of all the resources that the world furnishes us with, water is one of the most abundant. After all, 2/3rds of the earth is covered with the stuff.
It is rather ironic then when you consider that only 3% of that water is fresh water. Two thirds of that 3% is tied up in the ice caps, leaving just about 1%. Of that 1%, about 9/10 is either atmospheric, or held in the ground. The rest, about 0.01% is readily available in rivers and streams.
I think it was Samuel Coleridge in his well known Rime of the Ancient Mariner, who wrote"Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink."
