About me - Michael Finlay

About me

Hi, I'm Michael Finlay. After having spread my proverbial wings in many parts of the US, I have settled down here in Nashville, TN. I am a single father raising my four-year old little girl, Kai Parker. I am a father, a poet/writer/playwright, security guard, a lover, fighter, a liberal pagan commie socialist revolutionary and one hell of a good cook (ask anyone who has had my coffee cake). I write because it is what I love to do, it's that simple.

Briefly me

My passion is ...

writing, music, art, politics, history and mythology...and Quentin Tarantino

I know too much about ...

History, but it really depends on the day.

My parents always told me ...

It is your life, you make it the way you want it to be.

My childhood ambition ...

was to rule the world...and be a mix of Marlon Brando and Patrick Stewart.

My favorite memory ...

is sitting underneath my father's piano and listening as he practiced

Why I write ...

because I love it.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

I don't watch much TV except cooking shows and Dr. Who. I read a lot of Dr. Seuss(I do have a baby) but right now I am reading Don Quixote. I usually listen to NPR or college radio but when I'm not I have Coltrane or Dizzy on the stereo.

My first job ...

was working in a shipping plant for 4.50 an hour when I was 16.

My best moment ...

I'm 31, so I'm not old enough to answer that but thus far it has all been pretty spectacular

My inspiration ...

As Lenny Bruce said, "I am inspired by everything around me."

So I speak, I dare to be seen, though all of the eyes but one look upon me: her once scalpel snear, her once clinging claws- I am myself, at last may I say now that I am free? Once, for her, I climbed two mountains and knew my limits. Once, for her, I stepped into the rageful lights of her darkness and pulled her free. Once, f...
