I am an artist who takes great pleasure in my day job as an elementary school Visual Arts teacher. I love my kids and they love Art. After 19 years of teaching, many of my former students have grown up and are now my friends on Facebook! Many of them are working in jobs that have to do with Art. I love to read, and my dream has always been to write and illustrate books, particularly children's books.
I have a bachelors degree in fine art from Rutgers University, NJ, another in graphic design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and a masters degree in literature from St. John's University in NY. If being a student could be a profession, I would never have left school.
I am a dreamer, a nurturer, a healer and a believer. That is, I believe in the value of each person, in the wonder alive in this world, and in the amazing resiliance and creativity of the human spirit. I've never been published commercially, but I have written short articles and created artwork for church publications, and published several poems online. I am always writing. Right now, besides my poetry, I am working on a fantasy novel, The Chronicles of the Altuars/ Kaze's story.
I'm also an independant singer/ songwriter. I have completed one independent CD, "Jesussheep: Songs from the Father's Heart," and am currently working on my second, "Love One Another Little Children." The Jesussheep CD can be listened to and purchased at cdbaby.com/jesussheep.
My favorite genres are adult and children's fantasy, science fiction, and Christian Charismatic writing. I live for experiencing the miraculous in the imagination and in everyday life!
My passion is ...
teaching children how creative they are and how to focus in on their natural gifts and imagination
I know too much about ...
worlds and places that don't exist!.
My parents always told me ...
reach for the stars...you may only reach the moon but you won't fall on your face
My childhood ambition ...
to become a children's book illustrator
My favorite memory ...
falling in love-numerous times, but mostly the last time around, with my husband!
Why I write ...
cause I can't not write
What I am reading/watching/listening to ...
I'm reading the Terry Pratchett Discworld Novel, Unseen Academicals. What a riot!
My first job ...
waitressing in a Chinese Restaurant owned by the family of one of my best friends. (I babysat for years before that, but does that count?)
My best moment ...
going back and getting my Masters degree from St. John's University at the age of 53
My inspiration ...
My daughter, Beth, who has worked so hard to become an architect
This life is not a tragedy, All bitter moments and haunting memories, Though there have been some days like these. This life is not a carnival show All laughing crowds and clowns in tow Though I have sensed its golden glow. This life is not without its pain, Cold, empty space, winter’s terrain, Where death and loss have always been. But there is also summer’s reign Hidden pools that lovers claim, Lush and fertile fields of grain. And I would do it all again!
