About me - Simon Garth

About me

I have always enjoyed writing since a very young age, but as I got older, more cynical and a job in the IT industry, the old right side of the brain withered until this urge to write was virtually subliminal! This is my attempt to reverse that trend, so if any of you out there know someone who is looking for a writer...

Briefly me

My passion is ...

...lots of things really. Playing squash and pool are the ones that spring most readily to mind but there are just too many to mention.

I know too much about ...

Fast Food and pulp TV. I guess this stems from my misspent youth at college. You know what they say about the downward spiral...

My parents always told me ...

...to look both ways when crossing the road. This has turned out to be stirling advice which has served me well over the years.

My childhood ambition ...

To be a Fighter Pilot, and a celibrated novelist. Not necessarily in that order, and I can honestly say that I have acheived neither.

My favorite memory ...

This is a hard one as lots of them are very personal. The time when I had got my degree is one I can mention though.

Why I write ...

I find it gives me a real buzz. This is the first outlet where I have been given the opportunity to have a go.

What I am reading/watching/listening to ...

At the moment a very good album by K T Tunstall. On TV I like comedies, the odd docuementary, and a bit of news as well.

My first job ...

My first ever job was as a postman during the summers when I was on vacation from college. The job wasn't bad, but the early starts and the propensity of vicious dogs took some of the shine off it for me.

My best moment ...

Another one that I can't really answer honestly here.

My inspiration ...

The very essence of life itself...er...that and fast food and pulp TV....

The daddy of them all 'Big Brother' still proves enough of a draw to ensure that Channel 4 will commission future series, despite claims of falling ratings by the media. The hard facts are that there is a voracious demand for shows such as 'American Idol' and 'Dancing with the Stars', which means that in the dog eat dog...
